As a Native and African American with roots in South Dakota and the rich cultural heritage of the Lakota people, Ms. Bock brings a unique perspective to her work.

About Sonja Bock

With over a decade of teaching sociology and extensive lectures across the state, she has become a trusted voice on diversity in education and Native American culture. For the last twenty years, Sonja has researched her family trees. On her paternal side, there is a true voyage through the history of enslaved people, a representation of survival and success. She shares how to overcome the barriers that make researching African-American families difficult. Ms. Sonja believes we can create a better future by learning from our past.
